C.Laird Birmingham MD MHSc FRCPC FACP ABIM FAED is a Specialist in Internal Medicine, Epidemiologist and Biostatistician and a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia, where he was previously Professor of Medicine. He was Medical Director of the St. Paul's Eating Disorder Program, British Columbia Provincial Director for Eating Disorders, and Leader of the BC Eating Disorders Epidemiology Project in the Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences until 2008, Director of Eating Disorders for the Department of Psychiatry at UBC, and the Medical Director of the Woodstone Residential Remedy Centre for Eating Disorders until December 2013.
He is a Member of the Brain Research Centre at UBC and Senior Associate Clinician Scientist at the Children & Family Research Institute, and Associate Editor of the European Journal of Obesity & Eating Disorders, Academic Associate Editor of BMC Psychiatry, Senior Editor of the Journal of Eating Disorders.
He is a Fellow of the Academy of Eating Disorders, Member of the Eating Disorders Research Society, and was an author of the Australia and New Zealand Guidelines for Eating Disorders and invited reviewer of the American Psychiatric Association Practice Guidelines for the Remedy of Patients with Eating Disorders, Third Edition. He has more than 30 years of experience in eating disorder research and Remedy and has 250 publications including 124 refereed articles, 21 invited chapters, and eight books.
